Chocolate Review: Corillo from the Naked Leaf

Corillo Chocolate front~ Organic ~ Fair Trade ~ Local
Orgasmic:
 Yes
Price Point: $4.99 in the local store, if I recall correctly.
Flavour: Beautiful. Begins with a light dark chocolate flavour with a hint of rose as a just strong enough mint flavour floats in and ends your bite. The rose flavour comes out strong when you have a bite with tea in it.
Texture: Overall smooth, melt in your mouth chocolate. The texture changes when you have a bite with tea in it.
Overall Chocogasm: 9/10

I went to the Keningston area of Calgary to go to Oo-long Teahouse and in my wanders ended up finding The Naked Leaf as well! There I met a super friendly and informative young man who was working there, Hamish. Hamish took the time to explain the puerh teas to me, told me about the chocolate, and even gave me some tea samples! Way to go on customer service Hamish! 😉

Before we get to the chocolate, let me show you this adorable tea set they had for sale at the Naked Leaf. If I had a more permanent home I would be drinking tea from it right now, but alas!

Owl Tea Set So. Ridiculously. Cute!

Back to chocolate!

The chocolate is exclusively available at the Naked Leafs store location (I couldn’t find it on their website) and is made in Calgary (Yeah for being local!) by a professor at the local major Art School – I didn’t catch which one. The person who makes the chocolate uses tea from the Naked Leaf and puts it in the bars!

Corrillo back

All of the bars have fancy artsy labels that Naked Leaf makes for the tins of tea they sell as well. The names of the chocolate are self explanitory: Rose Mint, Earl Gray, and so on. Its rare to see Earl Gray chocolate for sale, and its one of my favourites, however this Earl Gray had milk in the list of ingredients so I went with the Rose Mint!

When you bite into this chocolate bar it instantly and slowly begins to melt in your mouth. As the dark chocolate coats your tongue the mint flavour is released, and if you have a rose bit, rose flavour, too.

Its texture is perfect. Just perfect. It is smooth and soft once on your tongue with only the tea bits being the real texture.

The flavours are prominent in each bite, and this is a bar to get if you really like mint. I could see those who aren’t as much a fan of mint as I am saying it is too strong but I think its perfect. A similar but more heartier and fulfilling flavour of the After Eight Mints.

This is a chocolate bar I imagine having with cups of tea, taking a small bite here and there every so often. The rain is falling and I am reading a great book.  This is a chocolate I find myself taking small bits and enjoying them immensely in my day. It is not easy to just devour this chocolate.

These chocolate bars are not vegan! Some of the bars have no milk and others do. They have the warning that they “May contain traces of nuts, peanuts, dairy products and alcohol.”

The bars are a bit small for the price I recall purchasing them for however they are an artisian chocolate – not an everyday chocolate – which generally goes for more in my experience.

This is a chocolate that would definitely be part of my daily life if I lived in Calgary. Go check out the Naked Leaf when you get a chance!
