Price Point: $5.99 in the local store; $59.00/12 pack on the website
Flavour: Amazing. It’s a just right sweetness for a fruity bar. The hazelnut leaves a light nutty flavour and the bits of pomegranate add a bitter-sweet to the flavour.
Texture: It varies. There are pomegranate and hazelnut bits inside the bar. I personally really like the pomegranate bits.
Overall Chocogasm: 8.5/10

Funny story! I contacted Zazubean to send me a sample. A week later in my mail they had delivered one Sassy Chocolate bar. I was ecstatic. Not only because this is the first sample I’ve received but because they sent me one of my favourite chocolate bars made by this company. I ended up eating that entire bar without writing a review – just nibbling on it throughout a week.

I felt bad that I ate it all without doing the review as intended so I purchased another bar of the same kind. I had an emotional emergency through which that entire bar was consumed. And again I back to the Co-op and purchased a third bar – of which I am already almost through.

This stuff is addictive!

It is such a lovely flavour and texture. It’s sweetened with coconut sugar so if you don’t eat a lot of coconut you might notice that flavour in the bar as well however I don’t notice the coconut at all in any of their bars that have coconut sugar.

I really enjoy the combination of the pomegranate and hazelnut. I really like using hazelnuts in my own chocolate making because of the rich and buttery texture  and flavour it lends to the chocolate. This bar is all the richer for it for sure. The pomegranate seems to be dried yet juicy bits inside of the chocolate. This gives the chocolate a varied texture that’s not heavy and an additional sweetness flavour blast when you find a pomegranate inside of your mouth.

It comes wrapped in foil which is wrapped in paper. I actually like that it is wrapped in the foil because it makes it really easy to wrap up the rest of chocolate though sometimes when I break off a piece the foil rips. The shape of the bar (a regular chocolate bar) makes the foil easy to use too.

I have to say that I am not usually a fan of fruit chocolate bars but this one is a regular go to for me when I am in a bit more of a fruity or sweet mood. I have shared this chocolate bar with friends who are not big chocolate or fruity chocolate fans and have only ever received stellar reviews.

I really love that it is made with coconut milk too. I find it lends to the creamy and rich texture of the chocolate bar you are sure to notice as it melts in your mouth.

I highly recommend this chocolate as a basic go to bar. The only thing is that if you are seeking a dark chocolate bar you might find this to be too light. It is only 55% Cacao. The chocolate does come from the Dominican Republic and Ecuador though which tend to have delicious cacao.

The other thing is that although the company advertises this bar as being vegan there is a small writing on the back that says “May contain milk, almonds and peanuts.” For some people that will make a difference but for others (like me) its not a big deal.

This is definitely a bar worth trying out. 🙂
